Tewkesbury Marina Worcestershire UK
Alchemy: Newly completed Dutch Barge replica, fitted out to the highest standard by a professional cabinet maker.
The hull was commissioned in 2013 and we moved aboard a couple of years ago whilst completing the fit-out. Alchemy is currently moored on the river at the beautiful and sought after Tewkesbury Marina, the current mooring is available with the boat subject to interview, a big bonus as the marina now has a long waiting list for large barges.
Alchemy displays an innovative and unique design with many outstanding features that present the boat in a beautiful and thought provoking manner. These include a large collapsible wheelhouse, assisted by gas struts and a retractable roof in the form of a rolling tambour - ideal for catching some sun whilst preparing breakfast on summer mornings as well as creating a stunning slatted effect in its closed position. Other unique features include sliding doors for space saving solutions and tambour units in the rear cabin to hide the washing machine and freezer.
Examples of fine cabinet making mixed with inspiring engineering can be seen throughout this build. E.g. a sunburst veneer pattern on the dining table and a stunning curved wall between the bathroom and main living space.
The main two timbers found on Alchemy are English Walnut and Oak. These harmonise perfectly with the textiles used throughout the fit-out.
From Alchemy's use of old snooker table slate for her kitchen worktops to stained glass inlayed in her portholes, she is truly one of a kind and makes for a perfect floating home!
Recent completed work:
Gas struts on the wheelhouse have been upgraded to 316 stainless steel.
All timber work (Wheelhouse, skylights, mast, aft railings and front windows) has been sanded back and finished with the renowned Scandinavian Desk Olje finish: a 2 part finish (which consists of 10 base coats of oil, then 6 top coats of varnish). This product is the best on the market and will stop any silvering and guarantees now flaking or peeling off the varnish due to the oil base coats. The timber looks superb and as new!
New bi-folding doors constructed from English Walnut and Oak to allow easy access along the gunnels.
Skylights now have covers to protect them through the winter months.
Alchemy was recently dry docked and the hull was blacked to a high standard in May 2017. Anodes still have a few years on them. A hull survey was carried out at the same time.
